BUMI SEHAT MIDWIFERY PROJECT

Indonesia

LIFE-SAVING HEALTH SERVICES FOR MOTHERS AND BABIES

Indonesia has one of the highest rates of infant mortality in SE-Asia, due to poor diets and unaffordable birth-related medical care.

Bumi Sehat is well on the way to changing this!

They provide free, patient-centric birthing services in Bali and Aceh, including:

  • Natural midwifery
  • Pre and ante natal care
  • Health & nutrition education
  • Ante natal yoga & acupuncture
  • Family planning
  • Training for local midwives

“Healthcare is a Human Right, but it is not free, someone must help pay for it. We of Team Bumi Sehat are the Hands, happy to do the work relieving suffering. You who help us via OHO are the HEART nourishing us, that we may do service to humanity with love.”
Ibu Robin Lim

Bumi Sehat

Five years ago Koming came to Bumi Sehat. She was full-term pregnant, but there was no heartbeat: her baby had died, one week before his birth. She had not had any prenatal care previous to this first visit.

It took courage for Koming to try again to have a baby. She came regularly to prenatal care, she took the free vitamin supplements we provide, and joined prenatal yoga. A few nights ago Koming Sutriani gave birth to a baby girl, safely and gently at Bumi Sehat. Her husband cried, because this tiny new daughter was alive.

Bumi Sehat’s support grows each year, with 2016 seeing over 60,000 people receive services from their birthing centres in Bali and Aceh.

This included:

  • 600 births
  • 6,000 pre natal check-ups
  • 5,000 pre-natal yoga and acupuncture clients
  • 9,000 local midwives and nurses upskilled
